It is recognised that one in four people will experience a mental health difficulty at some point in their lives. Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) was introduced as a way in which people could access talking therapies as close to their home as possible.

We have been commissioned since September 2013 by Bath and North East Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group (Banes CCG) and have been known as Banes Primary Care Talking Therapies Service since April 2015. We are part of Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust (AWP) and have close links with both statutory specialised Mental Health and third sector services.

Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) seeks to use the least intrusive method of care possible to treat people. This is called a “Stepped Care” model and means that the person is provided with the most effective, least intensive treatment to meet their needs. The clinician you see initailly will explain to you what choices are available for you and why they are considered suitable for you.

We offer:

One to one face to face and telephone appointments
Group sessions and coursesmake connections, you’re not alone

The service offers a wide range of interventions to people who are aged 16 years and over and who are registered with a GP within Bath and North East Somerset. These interventions have been researched to show that they are effective in treating difficulties such as:-

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Panic
  • Post Natal Depression
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

We also offer treatments which are useful in managing long term health conditions and difficulties such as sleeping.
