We run a wide variety of free psycho-educational courses around a range of psychological and emotional difficulties.  We aim to help people feel as comfortable and as welcome as possible, so no-one will be asked to do anything that they do not wish to.  There are no “ice-breaker” exercises and no-one will be asked to speak individually.

Surviving the Job Search Workshop

Date: 19/01/2021  |  Location: Online

This free online workshop aims to help you to job search effectively and introduces Cognitive Behavioural Theory as a method of effectively coping with any negative thoughts that come your way during the process.

Topics covered include:

·   Applying for the right job

·   Handling rejection by managing and balancing unhelpful and negative thoughts

·   Building resilience

This is an online taught course, run in a group format, so although there will be some group discussion it is up to you how much or how little you choose to take part.

This workshop will run for one session held on a Tuesday Afternoon, starting at 14:00 pm and finishing at 16:00 pm.

Coping with Low Mood and Depression

This free online course looks at the nature of low mood and depression and demonstrates different methods of dealing with this difficult emotion.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding low mood and depression including recognising the impact our thoughts and behaviours can have on our emotions.
  • Helpful techniques to improve motivation and increase activity levels
  • Techniques for managing difficult thoughts

This is an online taught course, run in a group format, so although there will be some group discussion it is up to you how much or how little you choose to take part.

This course will run for three weekly sessions held on a Thursday Afternoon, starting at 14:00 pm and finishing at 16:00 pm.

Stress and Mood Management

This free online course introduces Cognitive Behavioural Theory (CBT) as a method of effectively reducing difficult emotions such as anxiety, depression and anger.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding anxiety and general stress
  • Techniques for managing difficult thoughts
  • Managing the expectations we set ourselves and others
  • Techniques for communicating assertively
  • Helpful ways to put techniques into practice

This is an online taught course, run in a group format, so although there will be some group discussion it is up to you how much or how little you choose to take part.

This course will run for three weekly sessions held on a Friday Morning Starting at 10:00 am and finishing at 12:00 pm.

Managing Panic Attacks and Phobias

This free online course is aimed at people experiencing problems with anxiety and / or panic. It introduces Cognitive Behavioural Theory (CBT) as a method of coping with panic and phobias.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding how and why anxiety problems develop and are maintained
  • The meaning and causes of the physical symptoms of anxiety and how to cope with them using a range of relaxation and mindfulness techniques
  • How our thoughts and beliefs can contribute to anxiety problems and how to reduce their impact
  • How to develop your own plan for overcoming anxiety in a step-by-step manner

This course is most appropriate for:

  • Those who experience panic, or panic attacks; phobias and situational anxieties e.g. social anxiety. If you experience more generalised anxiety, or worry a lot our ‘Managing Worry’ course may be more appropriate.

This is an online taught course, run in a group format, so although there will be some group discussion it is up to you how much or how little you choose to take part.

This course will run for three weekly sessions held on a Friday Afternoon Starting at 14:00 pm and finishing at 16:00 pm.

This free online course is aimed at people experiencing problems with anxiety, focusing on general anxiety and excessive worry. It introduces Cognitive Behavioural Theory as a method of effectively managing worry.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding how to manage worry
  • How our thoughts and beliefs can contribute to worry and how to reduce their impact
  • How to manage and limit the impact of worry on our day to day lives
  • How to manage and tolerate uncertainty
  • How to turn unproductive worry into helpful problem-solving
  • How to develop your own plan for overcoming anxiety in a step-by-step manner

Managing Sleep Difficulties

This free online course aims to help people experiencing sleep difficulties (not sleeping enough / disrupted sleep / early morning waking), who are also experiencing any other condition whether physical or emotional in nature. The course aims to help you understand your sleep difficulties and provide you with techniques which can help you to cope with poor sleep.

Living Well with Chronic Pain

This free online course is offered by our BANES Talking Therapies team with the BANES Pain Management Physiotherapy Service. These sessions are suitable for anyone with Chronic or Persistent Pain who is looking to learn tools and techniques to manage their emotional wellbeing.

Topics covered include:

  • Exploring the challenges of living with Chronic Pain
  • How anxiety/low mood can affect you
  • Helpful ways to reduce stress and manage your worries
  • Managing difficult thoughts
  • Managing daily activities
  • Setting goals and overcoming barriers
