We run a wide variety of free psycho-educational courses around a range of psychological and emotional difficulties.  We aim to help people feel as comfortable and as welcome as possible, so no-one will be asked to do anything that they do not wish to.  There are no “ice-breaker” exercises and no-one will be asked to speak individually.

Please be advised we recommend only booking onto one or two courses at a time in order to make the most of the content.

Managing Panic Attacks and Phobias (3 sessions)

Managing Panic Attacks and Phobias

3 sessions

This free course is aimed at people experiencing problems with anxiety and / or panic. It introduces Cognitive Behavioural Theory (CBT) as a method of coping with panic and phobias.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding how and why anxiety problems develop and are maintained
  • The meaning and causes of the physical symptoms of anxiety and how to cope with them using a range of relaxation and mindfulness techniques
  • How our thoughts and beliefs can contribute to anxiety problems and how to reduce their impact
  • How to develop your own plan for overcoming anxiety in a step-by-step manner
  • This course is most appropriate for:
  • Those who experience panic, or panic attacks; phobias and situational anxieties e.g. social anxiety. If you experience more generalised anxiety, or worry a lot our ‘Managing Worry’ course may be more appropriate.
  • This is an online taught course, run in a group format, so although there will be some group discussion it is up to you how much or how little you choose to take part.This course will run for 3 sessions held on a Monday Afternoon starting at 2:00 pm and finishing at 4:00 pm.

This free online course is aimed at people experiencing problems with anxiety, focusing on general anxiety and excessive worry.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding how to manage worry
  • How our thoughts and beliefs can contribute to worry and how to reduce their impact
  • How to manage and limit the impact of worry on our day to day lives
  • How to manage and tolerate uncertainty
  • How to turn unproductive worry into helpful problem-solving
  • How to develop your own plan for overcoming anxiety in a step-by-step manner

This is an online taught course, run in a group format, so although there will be some group discussion it is up to you how much or how little you choose to take part.

This course will run for 3 sessions held on a Tuesday Evening, starting at 6:00 pm and finishing at 8:00 pm.

Introduction to Mindfulness (4 Sessions)

Date: 07/10/2021  |  Location: Online/Microsoft Teams

We can often live our lives on “auto-pilot” and react habitually to situations in unhelpful ways. Mindfulness allows us to be more flexible in our response to the stresses of life, to be less driven and distressed by our thoughts and emotions, and to appreciate each moment of life more fully. Mindfulness can be beneficial for people experiencing low mood or anxiety, and for managing long term health conditions.

Please note; Although Mindfulness is designed to help us deal with times of crisis, it is not easy to learn the skills at such times. It is therefore recommended that you choose a time of relative stability to undertake the course. More information can be found under the ‘What we offer’ section of the website.

Topics covered include:

  • An introduction to the mindfulness approach
  • Mindfulness practices such as bodyscan, sitting meditation and mindful movement. If possible we would like participants to do the bodyscan lying down. If you would prefer to lie down we recommend bringing something to lie on such as a mat or blanket, however this is not compulsory.
  • Body temperature tends to lower doing the bodyscan and therefore we recommend warm clothes or a blanket to cover you. The course involves daily practice between the weekly sessions – further details will be given out at the end of each session.
  • Please note this course is structured differently to our other courses, and will involve participating in mindfulness practices followed by small group discussions about this experience.

This course will run for 4 sessions held on a Thursday morning, starting at 10:00 am and finishing at 12:00 pm.
