This free workshop introduces Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT) and Assertiveness Techniques to improve our Communication Skills.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding different styles of communication and the impact on us and other people
  • Discussing assertiveness and how to communicate our needs
  • Helpful ways to put techniques into practice

This is a taught workshop, run in a group format and there will be some group discussion and group exercises – although participation in these is optional.

This free course is aimed at people experiencing problems with anxiety and / or panic.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding how and why anxiety problems develop and are maintained
  • The meaning and causes of the physical symptoms of anxiety and how to cope with them using a range of relaxation and mindfulness techniques
  • How our thoughts and beliefs can contribute to anxiety problems and how to reduce their impact
  • How to develop your own plan for overcoming anxiety in a step-by-step manner

This is a taught course, run in a group format, so although there will be some group discussion it is up to you how much or how little you choose to take part.

This course is most appropriate for:

  • Those who experience panic, or panic attacks; phobias and situational anxieties e.g. social anxiety.
  • If you experience more generalised anxiety, or worry a lot our ‘Managing Worry’ course may be more appropriate.

This course will run for three weekly sessions held on a Thursday afternoon between 14:00 pm and 16:00 pm.

There is some FREE parking at New Oriel Hall. However, you can also park on the residential streets nearby.

Please note - There will is no wheelchair access to the course room and participants will need to use the stairs to get to the room, so may be unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems.

We can often live our lives on “auto-pilot” and react habitually to situations in unhelpful ways. Mindfulness allows us to be more flexible in our response to the stresses of life, to be less driven and distressed by our thoughts and emotions, and to appreciate each moment of life more fully. Mindfulness can be beneficial for people experiencing low mood or anxiety, and for managing long term health conditions. More information can be found under the ‘What we offer’ section of the website.

This course will include:

  • An introduction to the mindfulness approach
  • Mindfulness practices such as bodyscan, sitting meditation and mindful movement

Please note this course is structured differently to our other courses, and will involve participating in mindfulness practices followed by small group discussions about this experience.

If possible we would like participants to do the bodyscan lying down. It would be preferable if you could bring something to lie on such as a mat or blanket, if this is a problem there will be a few spare mats provided.

Body temperature tends to lower doing the bodyscan and therefore we recommend ensuring you have warm clothes or a blanket to cover you. The course involves daily practice between the weekly sessions - further details will be given out at the end of each session.

This course will run for four weekly sessions held on a Monday afternoon between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm.

There is FREE parking at this venue. However, it can be very busy, so allow plenty of time to park.
